Public Service
This is Art Rader and Assemblyman Bob Thomas sponsoring a
Nevada bill to repeal the 55 mph speed limit.
This bill passed the legislature, backed by Attorney
General Brian McKay and supported by Governor Dick
Bryan.
Outcome
The law went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court
for final judicial review. Art was one of the very few
freshman Nevada lawmakers who sponsored a bill of
national importance.
Other state legislatures followed Art's and Nevada's
lead by passing laws that convinced Congress to repeal the
Federal speed limit and return control of highway speeds
to the states.
Boards, Commissions and More
Art has been appointed to numerous commissions and
boards by governors, county commissioners and UNLV
administrators:

- Consultant for Nevada State Parks Division.
- Section Editor for the Nevada US Bicentennial
Commission Bicentennial HistoryBook.
- Member of the Paradise Township Town Board
and the Clark County Mobile Home Mediation Board.
- Chair (by appointment) of the Technical
Oversight Design Committee for the construction of
UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center.
- Consultant to UNLV's basketball program:

old Convention Center rotunda and designed almost
all of the special effects used in the present
Thomas & Mack pre-game shows.
